Boston Children’s Hospital Trust - TeamRaiser Templates & UX Flow
Boston Children’s Hospital Trust (BCHT) had a big goal in mind, make the user experience (UX) between Drupal and Luminate Online (LO) so smooth and intuitive that users don’t even realize they’ve switched platforms.

Our Solution:
BCHT made a big move by shifting their TeamRaiser (TR) homepages to Drupal—great for flexibility but a bit tricky for ensuring the user journey was seamless.
We needed to:
- Ensure users could flow effortlessly between Drupal and LO without scratching their heads.
- Create a unified visual look.
- Simplify BCHT’s yearly TR updates.
The Plan
1. Button Strategy:
We kicked things off by figuring out exactly what buttons and content needed to live on the new Drupal TR homepages:
- Register? Check.
- Donate? Of course.
- Login, Search, Event Details? Absolutely.
Then we made sure they were all in the right spots—easy to find, hard to miss.
2. Keeping Things Consistent:
To make sure Drupal and LO felt like two sides of the same coin, we:
- Copied BCHT’s new header, navigation, and footer from Drupal into LO. (Spoiler: it looks great.)
- Built modular “blocks” in LO to mimic Drupal’s layout, so pages can be assembled like Lego bricks.
3. Breadcrumbs, but Make Them Digital
We added breadcrumbs (you know, the little navigation helpers) across TR and LO pages so users could always find their way back to the Drupal homepage. No lost users here!
4. Search Smarter, Not Harder:
We gave the TR search page a total glow-up and made it the default homepage in LO. Here's what it now includes:
- Leaderboards + Thermometers: All the motivation, all in one place.
- “Other Ways to Help” Cards: Extra ways for users to get involved.
- Supercharged Search: A single search box that finds both participants and teams, with a sleek new look for search results.
5. Efficiency for the Win
Behind the scenes, we revamped how templates work and pages are built. This means BCHT’s team can flip TRs every year in record time without pulling their hair out. Independence unlocked!

The Results:
Here’s what all this magic added up to:
- A Flawless UX Flow: Users can hop between Drupal and LO like pros without feeling disoriented.
- Cohesive Branding: The BCHT vibe stays strong, no matter where you are.
- Enhanced Search: Finding participants and teams is now a breeze.
- Serious Time Savings: BCHT’s team spends way less time on TR updates, freeing them up for more exciting projects.

Seamless User Flow:
Users now glide effortlessly between Drupal and Luminate Online (LO) without missing a beat.
Unified Branding:
Consistent headers, footers, and layouts make BCHT’s platforms look like they belong together.
