NYU Langone Health
Digital Grateful Patient Program
NYU Langone Health’s goal was to engage recent patients through digital communications, encouraging them to connect with the hospital and explore opportunities to stay involved or support the institution philanthropically. With branded key messages, an interactive message board, and a series of three personalized emails, we launched a successful grateful patient program.

Project Highlights

Our Solution:
Email Series
The digital grateful patient program includes three messages in the email series: a warm welcome with a link to the main giving website, an invitation to submit a message to the interactive message board, and a final call to donate, signed by the Director of Fundraising. This progression builds trust and engagement, guiding patients from community participation to philanthropic support.

Branded Key Messages
The core message of the program is that patients are a vital part of NYU Langone Health’s team. The email series welcomes patients into the giving community and reinforces their meaningful role in the ongoing mission to drive research breakthroughs, support the best care, and ensure the brightest possible future for medicine.
Interactive Message Board
We created the interactive message board as a welcoming digital space for patients to share reflections and engage with the broader NYU Langone giving community. The board encourages positivity and gratitude through supportive messages.

Additional Engagement
After receiving the full email series, patients are segmented into two groups: “engaged” recipients will continue to receive all future annual giving campaigns, while “unengaged” recipients will receive select, curated outreach. This strategy ensures sustained and personalized engagement based on their demonstrated level of interest, and, from a technical lens, protects the sender score.

The Result:
Through the digital grateful patient program, we were able to help NYU Langone Health foster a sense of community among new patients, increase digital engagement, and generate a strong foundation for ongoing philanthropic outreach.

- Richstone Family Center depends on volunteers to support many of its programs, but their screening process involved a lot of manual work. Staff had to read through every application, figure out where someone might be a good fit, note any concerns, and then follow up to schedule interviews. It was effective, but time-consuming for Richstone staff, and it slowed down how quickly new volunteers could get involved.
- Through its August stewardship campaign, Coast Guard Foundation wanted to cultivate and increase engagement with Guardians Circle donors by strengthening relationships with donors who had already shared their phone numbers and encouraging those who had not, to opt in—ultimately expanding its mobile audience.
- Nationwide Children’s Hospital Foundation wanted to increase the number of recurring donors through their online giving form. The goal was to encourage one-time donors to consider joining their community of monthly supporters by introducing a frictionless and engaging upsell experience directly within the donation process.
